The festive Christmas and New Year period are a perfect time to visit Lanzarote.
Firstly, you escape part of the freezing cold British winter. But that’s not all!
Imagine spending Christmas day on the beach, or lounging on a sun lounger by your own private pool.
Families populate the resort, it’s a busy period but not ridiculously busy; you can still easily find your way around without huge crowds. And there isn’t a feeling of over-commercialising the Christmas period.
The nearby village of Yaiza displays a famous “belén”, a creative nativity scene, which is worth a look and takes a long time and a lot of thought by locals to construct.
There’s no need to worry about not feeling the Christmas spirit like you would at home, as there are plenty of lights, decorations and festivities. If you still wish to have the traditional British Christmas dinner, there are plenty of British bars that offer that and you can even buy a turkey from the local British supermarkets.
It doesn’t end there. New Year festivities in Playa Blanca are a delight, with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The seafront fireworks are followed by dancing and partying until the small hours and beyond – enjoyed by all, young and old.
Weather-wise, the island is an all-year sun resort and many people from Northern Europe choose to spend their winters of the island. In the past it has tended to be in the early to mid-20s, you can find out more here.
The locals celebrate the period slightly differently with an added bonus of King’s Day, find out more here.
