Car Hire for Your Stay

It is usually good value hiring a car on the island and if you are planning a couple of days out touring, it can often be cheaper than booking bus tours of the island.

Hiring a car is a great value way of exploring the islands and seeing the parts that you can’t on a bus. The cheapest small cars start at roughly 80 euros for a week – amazing value!

It will be better value for money hiring a car from the airport in order to cut out the cost of airport transfers. But if you prefer not to hire from the airport then you’ll find there are a few car hire offices in Playa Blanca, although it is usually cheaper to book online and then collect the car or some car hire companies will drop the car off to your villa.

Make sure you hire from a company that gives you an all-in price and not a company that charges various excesses and for restrictions (AVOID Gold Car!). Booking early is advised for summer holidays and other busy times.

The roads are normally very quiet, well-maintained, easy to navigate and well-signposted on the island.

For navigation you can use Google Maps in the way you would in the UK. It’s very handy but you won’t get lost easily as the distance from the two extreme sides of Lanzarote is just 60km.

Like the rest of Spain, the island drives on the right-hand side. If you aren’t used to driving on the right, you’ll soon get used to it on the island’s quiet roads. There’s no real rush hour!
