The island is served by one airport, located in Playa Honda, and approximately a 30 minute drive to Playa Blanca.
Lanzarote Airport (ACE) comprises of two terminals, with Terminal 1 being used for all international flights and Terminal 2 for all inter-island Canary flights. Travelling to and from the UK, you’ll only ever use Terminal 1.
You can’t get lost easily, it is a comfortable size and has an easy layout; arrivals is on the ground floor and departures is on the first floor.
Arrival
Most flights land from the sea, and prior to the final approach you can get a good view into Playa Blanca. Landing from the sea you’ll come into the runway past the beach. Quite a view! However, on some occasions, usually due to differing wind directions, you may land over land, over the mountains in the centre of the island and finally over the supermarkets and industrial area of Playa Honda into the runway.
After stepping off the plane (usually it’s an air bridge to take you straight into the terminal, except when the airport is very busy), you’ll find your way to passport control. Bags collected and car keys collected, you’ll walk through to the arrivals hall where there is a small café and also an ATM. If haven’t hired a car, the airport transfer companies will be in the arrivals hall waiting for you.
If you haven’t pre-booked an airport transfer, you’ll find taxis waiting outside the arrivals hall. We’d always advise pre-booking with First Minute.
If you have a car the location of your car will vary on the company, there is one car park outside arrivals (cross the road where the taxis are and head into the car park building) and there is one upstairs (take the lift opposite where you came out the baggage hall or take the escalator ramp straight ahead and left where you came out the baggage hall).
Departure
Follow your car hire company instructions for where to leave the car. Otherwise, if you’re getting dropped off, you’ll be dropped off straight outside departures on the first floor. The luggage check-in desks are straight ahead. Once your cases are checked-in head to the security area by turning left after the check-in desks.
Once you’ve cleared security, you’ll head into the departure lounge by first walking through duty free. After that, you’ll see a few bars, cafés and shops, with the most recognisable brand being Burger King.
Surfing the internet whilst you wait for your flight is no problem, the free Wi-Fi service is generally very good. You just need to sign up using your email address, and it’ll remember you for next time!
There is a VIP lounge available, but it is smaller and more limited than the lounges at the larger UK airports you may be used to. You’ll find the VIP lounge at the far end walking from duty free on the right (near gate 1).
For getting that last bit of sun, there are a couple of small balcony areas where smoking is also permitted, as well as that final cold one in the Lanzarote sunshine.
